Since 1995, Calcutta Foundation has worked to strengthen low income communities in and around Calcutta. Established initially as an organization to support the musical training of orphan children, In 1995 when Shamlu Dudeja assumed responsibility of Calcutta Foundation, she decided to grow beyond the orchestra and engage in welfare activities around her community. While raising funds to sustain the orchestra, she started working to support other low income populations in the city, and subsequently registered the organisation as a foundation to multiply its effects — becoming one of the oldest foundations of Calcutta.
